PRESS RELEASE

Saturday the 3rd of July sees a celebration of weird and wonderful sounds as Problems at the Pancake House return to Cleere’s Theatre (hurrah!).

In the year-and-a-bit-long gap between the last full PATPH show, much has happened: friends made, places seen, a one-way traffic system put into place on the High St., etc etc. Now, however, it’s time to bring a little joy and noise to the wee fair village of Kilkenny (though many Kilkennyites still maintain that it is in fact a town; pish-posh says I).

For this, the 19th Problems at the Pancake House, we bring you Trumpets of Jericho (Cork), Ex Drummer (Kilkenny) and Neil (Space) for a night of punk, rock, pop, noise, silence, new-wave/no-wave, post-rock/pre-rock, all played on prepared and unprepared instruments. It’s all going to be very loud: a great big sonic ball of messy, ear-wrenching, heart-stopping, mind-violating goodness. Yummy.

Trumpets of Jericho

“Synk-wonk. New-wave/post-punk. Kitch-pop? I don’t know, I just don’t know! [pauses]...how about ‘fun music to get your f*ck on’?” Perry Benthos, Trumpets of Jericho

Formed in the early months of the first half of this year, Trumpets of Jericho is a band of young mischief-makers from Cork who play music that sounds like music sounds like, which happens to sound similar to: a bass, some drums, shrieking vocals, trumpets, copious amounts of synthesizers and maybe an accordion all thrown together into a small, suffocating room. With no lights on. Ever.

Apparently their high-energy live shows are already gaining rave reviews; they’ve played quite a few and will be playing more. This is about as much information as anyone can discern at this stage, even though it’s written in the third-person by one of the band members. They’re really good though, so you should definitely go see them.

(For fans of Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Adam and the Ants and noisy pop in general.)

Ex Drummer

Ex Drummer started in 2009,
named after the 2007 film by Koen Mortier
They are influenced by High tempo hardcore punk and other indiscernible influences.
Peter (guitar, keys) has played for various bands in Kilkenny including Jazz Panda and Supernova Scotia
Stephen (drums) was one of the founding members of Batfox and has contributed to various other bands in and around.
Ex Drummer practice in a shed. They watch football and play box.

forever.

Neil

Neil = Neil = 'Neil Quigley’ minus ‘Quigley’ = Neil. Just ‘Neil’; plain aul ‘Neil’.

No one knows what exactly this ‘Neil’ is brewing up but it’s guaranteed to be loud and captivating. So expect roaring sine-waves, throbbing vibrations and much outlandish behaviour. This ‘Neil’ fella is also going to be playing some of his films as part of his show. Not to be missed.
